"More staff needed at Tameside"

I was admitted to ward 17 of the Tameside General hospital with suspected gall stones.

The food was much better than when I was admitted 5 years ago following a minor stroke. Nurses seemed to take more responsibility to ensure correct diets and encouraged me to have a low-fat diet which was readily available.

The nursing staff were constantly overworked and I felt that ward 17 needed more staff.

Thank you for your kind comments about your care and treatment on ward 17. I will make sure your comments are passed on to the staff, who will be very pleased to receive them. I was pleased to note that the food was better than when you were last a patient, and that nurses took more responsibility in ensuring you had the correct diet. The hospital constantly seeks to improve the services offered and I am pleased that you have seen evidence of improvement. With regard to the number of nurses on the ward, we have recently agreed a plan which will lead to a better nurse to bed ratio in this ward. You may like to know that you can nominate staff who have given exceptionally good service for our “Show you care for those who care” or “Above and Beyond” awards.
