"The worst most depressing environment ever to have..."

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

What could be improved

The maternity department where you have ultrasounds is very dark, cold, depressing and abandoned. There is no one there at reception, no apologies for a 30 minute delay. Staff look as if they dont have time for you. With my 12 week scan I had a lady who didnt say a word. Every question I asked felt as if I asked too much. With my 20 week scan my worst nightmare came true. I had someone who was newly qualified, had no idea what she was talking about and had to ask confirmation about feet, placenta, heart and spine. We were disturbed 3 times! By 3 different people looking for the same patient (what a communication) at the end of the scan I was told to come back, because the newbie and the more experienced one (who didnt even bother to check for herself) couldnt find certain images of the baby. Her lack of knowledge and lack of reassurance has left me very very stressed after having my scan, whilst I should have been very happy and relieved. Well, I tell you one thing. I am never going to go back to that hospital and have asked for a referral to Berkshire hospital in Reading.
