What I liked
To be perfectly honest....nothing at all....staff said they would be back in a minute and returned more than ! hour later and once they had left the patient waiting room seemed to disappear into another world.
What could be improved
I had cause to visit Ward 10 with my elderly mother in law and the co ordination and staff attention on the ward was abysmal. We were kept waiting for 5 hours with little explanation of what was going on. My mother in law is diabetic and I was assured she would have her blood checked regularly because she had not eaten for 5 hours when we arrived, they only monitered her once during the 5 hours we we there. When we were told she could go home when a canular had been removed we were again left for 40 mins......I went to the staff desk in the Ward where 8 staff were sitting laughing and chatting, I asked could someone come take out the canular so that I could take her home to eat because of her diabetes....yes someone will come and do it......20 minutes later I returned to the desk to listen to the 2 sisters on duty still sitting at the desk discussing the pink edging on the computer screen and if they liked it or not. What a joke ward 10 is....I asked a doctor who was also sitting at the desk if someone would please come take out the canular so that we could go home. My mother in law was tired and hungry. I am appalled that this treatment is metered out to vulnerable sick people when lazy staff are sitting on their backsides discussing the virtues of a pink border on the computer screen. I for one would never willfully be admitted to this hospital having witnessed the level of care and respect which is given to patients. Your life in their hands........what a joke. Take my advice go somewhere else New Cross...Sandwell but not the Manor.
Anything else?
The Consultant inserted a canular into my mother in laws arm and had to continually leave the room and go back to the ward several times to fetch equipment because the trolley in the treatment and examination room was so poorly stocked. The room itself is dirty dusty and in need of a thorough clean.
"Poor is an under statement."
