What I liked
After a 3 day stay at Darlington Memorial Hospital on ward 31 i would like to express my gratitude for the care and compassion showed towards me. As a 1st year student nurse i am currently fresh on the knowledge on the fundamental concepts of nursing care, therefore can appreciate that all of the staff i have come across on this ward did their utmost to ensure they showed me all basic concepts. I was kept comfortable at all times, the ward routine was adhered to 99% of the time (which i think was exceptional seen as how busy they were at times and the fact that they were required for 2 of the days i was there to draft in a staff nurse from Birmingham to cover low staffing levels), I was well informed of what my care plan was going to be. I would in particular like to pay tribute to one staff nurse who took a great amount of her time and attention to the fact i was a first year student nurse. She talked me through every step of care that i received from her ensuring that i understood as a student why/what she was doing. This helped to take my mind off my anxiety of requiring an operation and will help considerably for me in the future as a student nurse. The Junior doctor i was admitted by was excellent and showed great confidence in his actions, the HCA were great aswell so overall i had an excellent stay as both a Patient and a student nurse. Excellent first hand experiences.
What could be improved
Staffing levels were good however the statistic given regarding a travel from Birmingham due to a lack of staff nurses was quite shocking. Other than that there are no criticisms on my part
"Full of care and compassion making me comfortable..."
