"Not receiving my results for so long was worrying!"

About: Derriford Hospital / Cardiology Sentinel Healthcare Southwest Community Interest Company / Cardiology (heart) Sentinel Healthcare Southwest Community Interest Company / Referral & Appointment Booking Team

(as the patient),

I was referred to Nuclear Medicine at Derriford by my GP for some tests on my heart. I was given an appointment originally at the Cumberland centre and the GP I saw there referred me on to Nuclear Medicine. Everything went really well until after I had had the tests. I was told that the results would be with me within 2 weeks. I received no results and having waited over 3 weeks I rang the Cumberland Centre and was told the results were with them but it would take 2 more weeks before they could be typed up and sent to my GP. I waited another 3 weeks and then rang my GP who still had not received the results but chased it and eventually I had the results. The appointment service and the carrying out of tests were excellent but waiting so long for results.

Dear Nadir778

We are sorry to hear of the delay with your results following your attendance at our Cardiology service. I does appear that we were experiencing a delay with our typing in the service which led to the delay with results.

As a direct result of your feedback we have changed our administration processes and now automatically and immediately share results from tests with the patients GP, even if our clinical letter is not finalised. This ensures the GP has all the up to date results for the patient.

Once again let me apologise for the delay and also thank you for taking time to feedback about your experiences which have led to a service change that will reduce delays with test results.

With best wishes
