The system changed from being able to order via your own doctor to a central ordering service.
There was no consultation with patients and the system was introduced without much information.
The current system works Ok for me. I order my products once a month having mainly flour, bread or pasta depending on the quantity you can have. Flour and pasta count as 2 units each and bread can only be order in units of 8. So you could have 8 small sliced loaves, 1 packet of flour and 1 packet of pasta.
Under the old system I might only order flour twice a year but now I make sure I order something every month and up to the maximum points.
I buy additional items e. g. extra bread, crackers etc as sometimes the prescription is not enough for a month.
I understand that the prescription is now free to all those diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and not just the over 60s so that is a good change for everyone.
