What I liked
I went into Torbay Hospital for a planned hip replacement operation and found the hospital and the staff I came into contact with were brilliant. This was my first experience of staying in a hospital, but I didn't feel anxious about it due to the extensive literature I had received beforehand and having attended a meeting with other patients awaiting hip replacements where we met physiotherapists, a ward sister and an orthopaedic surgeon, and where we received detailed information about what to expect., including the type of anaesthesia, which was usually a spinal injection. On the day of the operation I met with my Surgeon, with whom I had previously had a meeting, and then my Anaesthietist who confirmed I would have a spinal injection, together with something to make me sleep. After this was done the next thing I knew was waking up in Recovery and feeling fine. The care I received back on the ward was excellent and I was up and about the next day. I was discharged after two nights but by this time I was able to manage the crutches and in no way did I feel rushed out of the hospital.
What could be improved
Nothing - everything was so good.
Anything else?
In these days where there is much talk about some poor hospital services and also food, I must say I found the food was hot and tasty.
Overall I consider I received excellent service and care from all concerned and believe we are extremely fortunate in having such a wonderful hospital here at Torbay.
"Excellent procedure from very caring staff."
