"Worrying delay in diagnosis at Barnsley hospital"

About: Barnsley Hospital Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Neurosurgery

(as a relative),

Early last year my partner started to suffer from lower back pain. At first it was mild but gradually worsened over time. In June she was admitted to BDGH in an effort to find out what was wrong and for two weeks she had nothing but unacceptable treatment from the nursing staff. They were trying to tell her that the pain was in her head and that there was nothing wrong with her. The physiotherapy department also got involved and had her attempting to climb up and down stairs when she couldn't make it to the toilet on her own. The ward she was on seemed to be having some severe problems with MRSA and from what I saw the nursing staff also seemed to be ignoring other patients. She eventually had an MRI that confirmed a slipped disc, this then ruptured. She was hurriedly rushed to the Sheffield Hallamshire under the care of the neurosurgery ward and had surgery the following day due to being at risk from Corda Equina Syndrome.
