"A long wait!"

About: Wiltshire PCT

(as the patient),

I had an appointment at 10. 20am with the respiratory nurse at a surgery that has merged with my usual one, but is in another town. I arrived at 10. 10am and was told to fill out the asthma form and take a seat.

She brings me the form, I fill it in and take the pen back. So that is three times she has spoken to me so far. I am the ONLY patient sitting in the waiting room for the next 40 minutes.

The next patient arrives and the nurse comes down to take him in and asks what I am doing there. I explain that she had booked me in herself at 10. 20am, she spoke with the receptionists and they are at a loss as to why they didn't tell her I had arrived.

The nurse tells me as my appointment is an hour long she may not be able to see me. Hmm I am waiting for some sort of apology at this point. Anyway I wait, and wait and eventually the gentleman comes out and I am thinking great she will be here to tell me whether she has time to fit me in. Another five minutes go by, it's now 11. 12 and I have had enough, I was to be tested for Asthma/COPD and am now so wound up, the results would be a waste of time.

I go to reception and tell them I have to go as I don't have time to spend another hour here and ask why did it not occur to her and her colleague to question why I had been sat waiting for so long.

Firstly I am told it must have been a phone call that distracted her. I said I was still couldn't understand as to why, even if she had been distracted, did she not wonder what on earth I was doing still sitting there.
