"Cancelled clinic appointments at short notice or worse NO notice"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

My GP referred me to Crosshouse Hospital for an Orthopaedic Appointment 15 weeks ago. My appointment was at the end of Sept. On the morning of the appointment, I received a phone call at 09 55 telling me that my appointment for 10 20 was cancelled. (Consultant seemingly on holiday)

I was given another appointment for 5 days later. I attended Crosshouse Hospital for my appointment which was for 09 10, yet again to be told that this clinic was cancelled. Reason given for this was that there was some kind of meeting on with Orthopaedic staff and there was not a clinic on this morning. I could not believe it!

I have now been given an appointment for clinic on in early Oct. I am sure you will agree this is not acceptable practice. I am 68 years old.

The Sister in charge of outpatient clinics was very nice and did offer apology for my inconvenience.

Surely someone must take the blame for this and make sure that incidents like this do not happen again.

Thank you for using Patient Opinion to provide your feedback. I am sorry that you have not received a response before now. We are reviewing our approach, ensuring that responses are provided when people helpfully take time to share concerns and highlight problems.

I was pleased to read the Senior Charge Nurse apologised to you for the unacceptable care experiences that you outlined. Healthcare and medical managers have introduced several improvements to ensure that requests for leave and planning for meetings are factored into clinic planning - specifically to avoid what happened to you.

With best wishes,

Craig White
