"Pleasantly surprised, excellent and professional..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

What I liked

I visited the hospital in June and was told I would need my wisdom teeth removed. The clinic staff were wonderful and the Dr responsible for my care spent a good amount of time with me explaining the surgery, aftercare etc.

I had my surgery scheduled for September and I must admit I was very apprehensive! This did not remain to be the case as within an hour I had met my nurse who would be responsible for my care, met the anaesthetist, met the surgeon and was admitted to the Day Surgery Unit. I had a short wait and was taken to theatre by an anaesthetic nurse. Once in recovery I was cared for by two lovely nurses before being returned to the DSU. I was offered drinks (with straws) and ice packs to help with the bleeding (this may sound like silly things to note but it seemed care that was appropriate to the surgery I had undergone and is certainly not something I have ever experienced within the other NHS hospitals I have used). I was offered yoghurt and jelly to eat, jugs of water were plentiful and in good reach.

What could be improved

A Dr was called for me post surgery and I did not see them

Hot food was being offered but I was not made aware of it/asked if I wanted anything (was leaving quite late in the day and hadn't eaten anything)

Ward was very cold

Didn't always have my hearing aids in but people would talk to me and expect me to understand/respond. Some kind of symbol discretely on the bed might be appropriate.

Anything else?

Please pass on my thanks to the DSU and to the Max Fac dept, I don't enjoy being in hospital but this was certainly a positive experience

Thank you for your mostly positive comments. These have been shared with the relevant teams. We were concerned about your comments concerning the doctor not coming to see you, hot food not being offered as well as the issues of your hearing aids. I have shared these comments with the senior nursing team involved - presuming you are speaking about DSU and not a main ward? We will ensure your comments are followed up. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.
