What I liked
I had my first child, in my first hospital stay at the Darlington Memorial Hospital. Our care was handled very well by the staff. My husband and I are so grateful to the consultant and staff who assisted with our child's birth, helping to bring him into the world safely. The midwives, assistants and also the student staff on the postnatal ward were wonderful - kind and patient helping my baby and I with breastfeeding. I had intended to have my baby at the Midwifery-led Unit at Bishop Auckland, but circumstances dictated that DMH became necessary, and despite initial concerns about giving birth in hospital (busy, impersonal care), my expectations were exceeded by the caring staff at the DMH.
What could be improved
My only criticism could be of the hospital food. It may well be the best that finances and circumstances can provided, but some of it was less than appealing.
"Pleased with maternity staff"
