"Awful, rude, degrading"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

What I liked

Seen in maternity day unit. Follow up appointment to be left in waiting room for 2 hours. When seen i was left on a monitor for over an hour... baby is very active and no need to hav been left for over an hour. Waste of time and other patients could use this who really need it. I think the nurse actually went and had her lunch because i was most certain i could her a ping of food and smell it cooking.

When seen by the dr she was incredibly rude! told me that " other women have bigger problems" my problem was something minor however if not investigated could have lead to more complications with my pregnancy. my own GP and two other drs had agreed that i needed further investigation. so it wasnt me putting up a fuss.

I was not put at least i was not asked how i felt i was told how i should be feeling from a very rude doctor. I would just like to say that i am not one to put up a fuss however the way this lady delt with myself has left me extreamly distressed about comming in if i have further problems with my pregnancy. Not to mention when i actually give birth.

i think this is very poor care and basic care of patients.

What could be improved

i understand this is a very busy unit however, this is no excuse for bad manors. We come to use this service because we mothers to be are concerned or a gp has refered us. dont be rude and please have a better bed side mannor because alot... not all may i add have not learnt the use of a good bed side mannor. we are vunervable ladies who come to you who are worried about our unborn children. Sometimes we maybe over reacting but your not the one carrying a child who is your flesh and blood. please be more sympathetic .

We are very sorry to hear that you are unhappy about the treatment you received at the maternity day unit. We would very much welcome more details in order that we can fully investigate. If you have not already done so, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at PALS@ngh.nhs.uk or 01604 545784 - so that they can help to put things right.
