"poor food standard."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

Leaving the hospital and A&E

What could be improved

Food, Sunday lunch on ward 16 should have been Roast beef and yorkshire pudding and apple and ice cream. What came was grey veg, rock hard yorkshire pudding, wafer thin over cooked beef and grey roast potatoes and a large helping of mash potato and to finish off was dishwater gravy. Pudding overworked pastry pie crust with sour under cooked apples and defrosted ice cream. Been in the Royal 3 times all three times seem to get the feeling every meal is with mash potato and cooked to a inch of being burnt. where are the health benefits of over cooked veg and salty mashy potato?. Would it not be better to serve salad and jacket potatoes? Each time I asked family to bring food in as I was hungry, the last time was 3 weeks ago I was leaving on the Sunday evening still in pain but did not want to stay for another meal. We stopped off as I was so hungry, all I had ate in two days was my breakfast at home and breakfast and a sandwich and crisps in hospital, still you don't serve decaff drinks on the wards so I went without a hot drink on the ward.

The evening stay a member of staff kept opening the window regardless I was freezing cold by morning I had 3 blankets on as my feet were blue and stone cold.

Anything else?

Improve hospital food and drink. Look to having a healther menu and having fresh fruit and fresh salads.

Send your catering staff to the Royal Brompton for training that includes the catering managers who hold the purse strings. Banish packet food. They say food is the best medicine so don't just read this comment do something about it. Leicestershire has many diverse food sorces please use them, if you want to serve curry go to a curry and learn how to make a proper one with the spices. A mircowave dinner looks better than a Leicester Royal infirmary offering.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and we're really sorry that you weren't happy with the food you were served in our hospitals.

We served almost 2 million meals in our hospitals last year and complaints are very rare. However, your feedback has been passed to our catering managers so that they can take them on board and make improvements.
