What I liked

The staff in the labour ward and the neonatal ward were very nice, caring, helpful and professional. It was a pleasure being in their company.

It was clean.

What could be improved

Junior doctors need to improve their decision making

My notes said no to students and i was asked if i would change my mind to which i said no, yet one came in later that day.

Communication between staff on the antenatal ward needs improving.

Manner and professionalism of staff on the antenatal ward needs improving.

i could hear a staff member moan and even swear as she had to attend to a patient who buzzed a few times within a short period. The staff on this ward need to be taught some manners.

One of the junior doctors wasn't competent enough to make a decision about when to come back and check how my labour was progressing before deciding on a caesarian section. firstly he told the midwife 2 hours then after a comment she made he said he'd come back in 30 mins. Luckily the consultant came in and took over.

One of the antenatal ward midwives was rude; firstly she didn't introduce herself and her manner was very poor and uncaring for someone in this profession.

She removed my catheter so I asked how I would wee!

Her response was to get up and go to the toilet. There was no offer to help me up and make sure I was ok to do this. She gave the impression I was lazy and that having an emergency caesarian and being bed bound for nearly 3 days was no excuse

Communication on the antenatal ward was very poor especially during change-over of staff. A midwife gave me 3 disposable bowls to check my levels of urine and to buzz for her to collect once each was done. She had finished her shift and did not explain to the other staff who took over resulting in me repeating the process as the person who took the sample didn't measure it. Also wasn't recorded in my notes. I wasn't very mobile so didn't appreciate this. I don't understand why this is their process if they don't do anything with it.

I asked when I could go home at approx 10am. I was told they'd look into this. 12:30 I asked again and told they'd look at my notes so the midwife took them. 3:30 I asked if a decision had been made. The midwife said ' oh haven't they sorted it yet'! She went off and came back later to say she has put my notes under the persons nose to sort it asap. This is very time wasting for the Trust and myself.
