"RD&E is filthy, hope that you never have to visit..."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

What could be improved

I recently went to visit my new born nephew at RD&E, and I was shocked by the state of the hospital.

As you enter, there is a big sign asking you to stay away if you have bugs or a cold - fair enough. Yet the first thing I noticed was that the toilets contained no soap in any of the dispensers, and the bin was overflowing. Surely this is not a good way to stop the spread of bugs?

But it got worse - walking through one of the corridors, I noticed a bad smell, and as I rounded the corner I was confronted with a giant blue wheelie bin (padlocked, but obviously full). It was plainly obvious that birds had been attracted by the smell, as there were feathers all over the corridor.

There were also things like random matresses abandoned on floors in corridors, and bits of rubbish all over waiting room floors.

To me, it seems that the staff of RD&E are not at all concerned about cleanliness, so it makes me wonder if they would be concerned about patients? I'm just glad that i don't live in Exeter, so will hopefully never have to find out!

Anything else?

The cafe is very expensive - I recommend that you bring snacks/drinks if you are planning on a long visit.
