"What I thought would be a scary experience turned..."

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

What I liked

I was treated with respect and courtesy at all times. I was very nervous and everything was fully explained to me, from blood tests, to injections, to my operation. During my time in recovery everything was again explained to me why was I there for 2 hours (my temperature and blood pressure were too low). The staff were very friendly, from the cleaning and catering staff, to the nursing and physio staff. My doctor and registrar were lovely and kept me fully informed of my progress at all times. I would fully recommend this hospital. A scary time that was turned into a, if not pleasant, an OK experience.

What could be improved

My only concern was that when you are in hospital it is nice to know that you are cared about and that your family have telephoned. Once my daughter called and the nurse came and said to me "your daughter called, I hope you only have one daughter, as I can't remember her name". Luckily I do only have one daughter. Also a relative who lives away, telephoned twice and enquired about me and I was never informed that she had called at all. On another ocassion, when my daughter called again, she was informed I was with my son and that I was ready to come home, this was obviously another patient because it wasn't me. Just a little thing, but when you are ill, a phone call from family is really welcome. On the other hand, this would never deter me from going into QEQM and I know that nurses are very busy at times. Perhaps if funds allow at any time, just someone to answer family enquiries would be nice.
