"Terrible Service"

About: Pontyates Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My 11 year old son just started Secondary School last Wednesday (5th Sept).. He needs stitches taken out of his leg that were put in on Saturday 1st September. He has been in this new school for 4 days, so is just getting to know teachers, find his way around, get books etc - so now is NOT the time to miss school, after just 4 days...

On trying to get an AFTER SCHOOL appointment to have stitches taken out - the earliest I could get is Friday 14th. There is apparantly NO nurse available in the afternoons to take out the stitches.

Our only options there are:

1) Miss an entire morning off this new school waiting in Open Surgery for a 5minute appointment - the doctor himself stated that it would only take 5 minutes!

2) I could pick my son up from school 8/9 miles away, IN THE MIDDLE of morning lessons, bring him all the way back over to the surgery, where the doctor was willing to squeeze him in at 12. 30 - my son would then miss lunch and be taken back to school before afternoon lessons re-started (but too late to eat any lunch! )

3) Go to A+E - where I could expect a 4 hour wait again, for a 5 minute job (again, quoting the doctor! )

Of course, I could also take the appointment on Friday - or attempt to take out the stitches myself - but I am so annoyed that the doctor was NOT willing to squeeze him in after school, for as he stated, a 5 minute procedure, knowing full well that he has just started a new school and is not able to take time off school at the moment.... The doctor offered to squeeze him in tomorrow lunchtime - but as I stated, my son would miss lessons and lunch. It would be no hardship for the doctor to squeeze him in for 5 minutes at the end of surgery! !

Instead - I have no other option but to move my family to a different surgery!
