"Excellent care that was well coordinated and a..."

About: East Surrey Hospital

What I liked

I was kept well informed at all stages.

The care was well coordinated and I was exceptionally well looked after during my stay especially on Brockham ward.

The staff went that extra mile e.g during the night I could not sleep due to not being in my own bed, the staff nurse looking after my bay made me a cup of tea and made sure I was comfortable.

everyone was friendly and kept me informed at all times, this included the HCA on Surgical Admissions who advised me of all that would happen and when. Everyone introduced themselves.

The anesthetist and surgeon both gave me plenty of time to ask questions and explained everything well and dealt with my questions sensitively.

At pre op the Sister explained everything really well and ensured I had all the information I needed.

It was really good to see the matron so visible and friendly with everyone, as was the Ward Sister. everyone was really friendly and despite being extremely busy this was not shown to patients when they needed care.

The surgeon was exceptionally good, he explained everything, did not make assumptions about my knowledge and I have recovered from hysterectomy so well in less than 2 weeks, and you can hardly see the scars already. He not only dealt with the physical and surgical aspects but was extremely understanding about the emotional aspects of this operation.

The specialist nurse who came round with his colleague the next day was also extremely helpful in advising me of what to expect in my recovery period.

Anything else?

I do not like being in hospital as a patient and do not usually write any kind of review but just wanted to make sure that the staff were aware of how important showing that they cared made to the whole experience and that they did make my experience a good one.

Often people only write reviews when things go wrong it is really important for staff to know when things go right .

Being friendly and explaining delays makes such a difference and this is what I saw, not just with me but with other patients.

They were all very busy but at no time was I, or any other patients, ignored or snapped at.

Well done to all.Thankyou for your excellent care.
