"Lack of cleanliness on Simpson 2 at Nottingham City Hospital"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was a patient at the Nottingham City Hospital for a gall bladder removal. On Simpson 2 ward, beds were crowded in (with no space between them), and so it was made impossible to reach lockers and buzzers, especially when you are expected not to stretch after having surgery. In the toilet, full bedpans were left on the floor, awaiting tests, so you had to stretch over these in order to wash your hands at the sink. Also, on my arrival at the ward, there was no handwash gel at the bottom of the bed. I wonder why, if it was once possible to keep wards clean and clear in hospitals, then it is not so now?
