What I liked
I was admitted to ward 13 for elective surgery.
The standard of care was good. Nursing staff were under a lot of pressure, yet still afforded time if it was needed. I was kept informed about my progress and the theatre staff, anaesthetist and surgeon were very professional. There was a good mixture of senior and junior staff, and all staff were supportive and friendly. I was treated fairly and was given adequate pain relief.
What could be improved
I did have some concerns about general cleanliness, mainly in the bathroom and toilet areas, which were often quite dirty. When I found a soiled incontinence pad on the the floor of a toilet, raised the matter with a member of the nursing team, and it was attended to immediately. As someone who works in the scientific wing of company that deals with the control of infections, I would have liked to seen some better infection control practices observed.
Anything else?
I am grateful to all the staff for the care I received.
My surgery was cancelled 6 times, so it was a relief to get it done.
Food was reasonable most of the time.
"Excellent nursing and medical care, but..."
