What I liked
I had keyhole surgery for a hiatus hernia. The pre-operative checks were impressively thorough and reassuring. My 24 hours as an in-patient was a good experience and I was very satisfied with my care throughout this time.
What could be improved
Pre and Post Operative care information. I was discharged the day before the extended 4 day Jubilee Bank Holiday and would have like more information re care of wounds, what to do in an emergency, diet to be followed, well before admission. I was given no written information about any of this before or after my operation.
Anything else?
Why not involve patients in helping to compile the information that I feel I needed?
Patient questionnaire - what would you have liked to have known and when?
What's obvious to the healthcare professional may not be obvious to the patient.
"My first experience as an in-patient with the NHS..."
