What I liked
My husband was admitted to the medical assessment ward in the night - the night staff could not have been better and the above comments are in no way directed at them or the A&E staff. The night staff were attentive, concerned, thoughtful and considerate to all the people on their ward. Date night of 12/13th July.
What could be improved
Good grief what a difference with the day staff, complete personality change. Rude, thoughtless, inconsiderate, dignity and politeness obviously done a side step for this shift. The gentleman in the next bed had a dirty incontinence pad under his bed which stank. My husband asked 3 different members of staff if it could be cleaned up over a period of 3 hours -can you imagine having to be in your bed and nobody can be arsed to do a basic hygene job. He also told a member of staff that the loo was full of faeces and they had the cheek to say it was a mucky job and they would see if they could find someone who would be willing to clean it up - 2 hours later the poo was still in situ when we left. It seems to me that there is a dearth of good management on this shift - demotivated staff who one could have some sympathy for but for their selfish need to take out their gripes on the poor unfortunates who through no fault of their own find themselves poorly. Guess what, there's loads of people out of a job right now would be happy to be paid to clean up toilets and mop a floor.
Anything else?
No I think what I have said above says it all. The NHS do a good job, one I firmly believe in but nobody does themselves any favours behaving in such an unpleasant manner to what are effectively your customers. My husband was in hospital was there through a criminal act perpetrated on him which was distressing enough for all of us without having to deal with staff attitudes which were just as disrespectful.
"Rubbish."
