"very poor response times"

About: Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital

What could be improved

I was under the impression that my referral from GP to consultant should have been achieved within 18 weeks. At 18 weeks I was informed verbally that the waiting list for ny consultant was 32 weeks. I was offered no alternative. In the event, my wait was 48 weeks. As my condition was threatening to curtail my career as my GP was informed, and liable to be exacerbated by delay, I find this delay to be unacceptable. I have now been put on a further waiting list for actual treatment and am finding my condition to be worsening rapidly. I have little confidence in being able to resume my work at the professional level to which I am accustomed as a result of these delays.

Thank you for your feedback. The Trust apologises for your long wait on this occasion. The Trust strives to achieve the 18 week Referral to Treatment target for most of its English patients but has faced unprecedented levels of demand, particularly for certain consultants/services. In order to cope with the increased demand, a recruitment drive was initiated earlier this year and 5 new consultants have been appointed. In parallel to this, the hospital’s consultants are currently undertaking extra Theatre lists and clinics to see and treat as many patients as possible. When particular consultants have long waiting times, the Trust normally offers patients the opportunity to transfer their care to another surgeon with a shorter waiting time.

Please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Office on 01691 404606 or email pals.office@rjah.nhs.uk so that your particular circumstances can be fully investigated.
