"i would choose unit again if I needed surgery."

About: St James's University Hospital

What I liked

same day admission lounge: staff and clinicians were efficient, friendly, respectfull and professional throughout.making me feel at ease before my surgical procedure and talking through the planned procedure and after care, fully.

I awoke post surgery in a side room, and was given guidence on the call button and showed the facilities in the room straight away.

during my stay , staff made regular checks on my well being including physical monitoring observations and checking if i had need for pain relief.

on the occassions when i called for assistance, for pain medication, the medication was administered to me within five minutes each time.

the housekeeping staff apeared to look after cleaning and food/beverages and did so in a very cheerfull friendly way, and were quick to seek nursing staff on my behalf if i requested it.the food was as expected in most hospitals and reasonable.

I was on ward J52 lincoln wing, and i found it to be of a very good standard overall.and the student nurse involved in my care was apropriate and professional at all times, and keen to help where possible.

What could be improved

name badges could be clearer on staff, this would benefit patients as there are a larger number of staff changing shifts regulary.

on one occassion, medical and nursing staff were congregated at the nurses station organising aspects of care for the patients on the ward, which is obviousley essential, however I was unable to get the attention of any of the staff despite standing at the desk for ten minutes. when I asked one of the nurses to assist me , they dismissed me saying they had to talk with the doctor and they avoided eye contact with me. They were very rude, and a name badge would have identified them better. the student nurse eventually assisted me.
