"5 hours long wait for a 5 year old who is in pain..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

What I liked

The staffs were polite and caring.

What could be improved

It was a long wait for my little 5 year old to be seen, treated and discharged from the hospital. We had to wait for 10 minutes just to see the receptionists, then 3 hours to be seen and another 2 hours to be fully treated and discharged. In total we were in the A and E for over 5 hours. I understand this is not the staffs fault but the service is under staffs, however this service is not acceptable and the NHS should push the government to provide more money to hire more staffs.

We are pleased that you found the staff polite and caring but were disappointed by the delays you experienced. It is fair to say the Emergency Department has been under extreme pressure in recent months with unprecedented levels of activity and unfortunately some patients have waited longer than they, and we, would like. In terms of the delay at reception I have passed your comments to the Administrative Manager who asked that I apologise for this delay. There has been a new system in place for the way patients are booked in from arrival at the front door and this may have had an impact on your experience. Hopefully, once bedded in, this change will make the process more efficient. We hope that your daughter is doing well.
