About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

What I liked

Nothing was liked

What could be improved

Better care for the elderly and confused patients

Anything else?

My father was admitted from A@E to sandwich bay ward , the day after admittance i visited him he was chatty and sitting in the chair , he has very sore feet which were beautifully dressed by A@E but noticed one one foot was not dressed and was on a very dirty floor , my concern was of infection but i just carried on dismissing the the fact that he could catch some thing . I left the hospital thinking that it would all be ok.. The next afternoon i visited later about 18.30pm with my daughter to be greeted with my dad in bed in pain as his catheter was blocked my niece and nephew was also there who had already asked for a bladder wash out to be done or new catheter to be put in ( my dad suffers terrible with UTI and needs wash out regulary) the nurse on duty said only a doctor could do this and he would have to wait . In the mean time my dad wished to use the commode so one little nurse came over with the commode expecting to get dad up on her own and sit him on , I had to help her to do this and remake the soiled bed which i had changed. This is only a brief out line of my concerns.

I am very sorry to hear about the experience your dad and your family had whilst on Sandwich bay ward and I apologise that on this occasion we fell short of the high standards of care we aim to give. It would help us to have further details about the experience your dad and yourselves had, so if you could contact us it would be very much appreciated. In the meantime I will feeback the concerns you raised to the ward so they are aware of your experience.

You can contact us via the Patient Experience Team on tel 01277 783 145 or email PatientExperience@ekht.nhs.uk.
