What I liked
Went into A&E after having lost a lot of blood through a deep cut and was seen right away, wound bandaged up and was given a packed lunch to eat, which was really appreciated. All the staff who dealt with me were very courteous and fully explained what was happening. The department itself was spotlessly clean - indeed, there was a cleaner there the whole time sweeping and scrubbing the floor.
What could be improved
You expect a wait when you go into A&E and I was told it would be two hours. In the end it was 3 and a half hours, although I was given pain relief during this time. The most frustrating part is not knowing how long you have to wait - people are called out by name. The hospital actually has a computerised "queue" showing how long each patient has been waiting - it would be great if either that information was put onto the large flatscreen TV, which was just showing NHS adverts, or you were given a number when you arrived, so you could tell how close to your number you were.
"Great staff, great care, long wait!"
