"Ok for care but a more efficient Cleaning Regime..."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

We visited A&E on a Wednesday evening after my wife was involved in a minor RTA. We waited for around 3.5 hours in a busy waiting room to be seen which was fine as you could see there were more serious cases due to the number of ambulances which were arriving all the time.

The waiting room however was filthy. This consisted of litter, blood and spillages from drinks cans and discarded tissue on the floor and seating. During the 3.5 hours we were in the waiting area no cleaner came around and the mess remained.

When we were called though, although the level of care was adequate the mess of the cubicle we were located was disgraceful. The bin was overflowing, paper towels and used grey plastic gloves discarded on the floor, previous patient swabs / tape with blood on and ripped blue paper covering on the patient bed. I took a photo as it looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned at all during that day, I appreciate it’s a very busy environment but surely proper cleaning management regimes should be implemented to ensure these are check after each patient.

I must add that she was also admitted a month before for an evening on one of the wards and the level of care and cleanliness was excellent
