"Appalling."

About: Southampton General Hospital

What I liked

Medical care - consultants/surgeons excellent, most staff cheerful and helpful.

What could be improved

Everything else. Food always cold, water jug taken away and beaker not replaced (we are short of jugs was the reason given), nursing staff use auxiliaries to do most things, auxiliaries not willing to help transfer from bed to commode, bleeper not working properly so that patient can only call nurse and not operate lights etc, hoists not working, another patient with MRSA using bathroom, new bed too high for transfer to and from commode, bed-ridden patient was left alone on commode during changeover and almost fell.

Thanks for leaving your comments. I am pleased you found the staff helpful overall. However I am sorry to read that you found services and equipment not in good order and particularly your comments regarding the auxiliary staff. These comments will be raised with the Matron for surgery and the heads of department who manage the catering. We appreciate your comments.
