Although I was led to understand that GP practices would be required to stop using 0845 numbers in 2011, I gather that Sheffield PCT has continued to allow this. My practice does not allow appointments to be booked face-to-face (unless it is a follow-up appointment made while visiting the surgery), so even though I live less than 10 minutes from the surgery I still have to pay over the normal local phone rate to make the most routine of appointments.
Why is this allowed to continue?
"use of 0845 numbers by GP surgery"
