"Grateful to Women's Health Unit"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I just wanted to say a Big Thankyou to all the Nurses (womens health unit) an Dr. Hammersley for the great care that they took of me in Tameside Hospital.

I had previously been in the Hospital on MAAU ward for 14 hours days before I was admitted and the Doctors didn't seem to know what was going on. My blood samples were lost so after a 2hour wait for results, they had to go again and wait 2 hours for results. Eventually they sent me home, in pain.

Three days later I was admitted by the emergency Doctor and was very ill. Perhaps if MAAU Docs could have prevented this if they had done the correct tests? I will never know.

In contrast The Women's Health Unit and Doctors were fabulous and nursed me and my unborn baby back to health within days, I am so grateful for their care and support. Also Doctor Hammersley and the Gynae Doctor (unsure of her name) were not only lovely and caring but sorted my illness out and made me feel so comforted. This means a lot when you are very ill, scared and in a strange place.

And the day staff and night staff were so caring and fab. I can't thank them enough.

Thank you for your comments. Firstly we would like to say that we are glad that both yourself and your unborn baby were nursed back to health by the team on the Women’s Health Unit. We will ensure that Dr Hammersley and the Team are aware of your positive and kind comments.

I am very sorry to hear of your experience during your stay on the MAAU. Should you wish to take this matter further please contact the Trusts complaints department on 0161 922 6025 so that a full investigation can be conducted into your concerns.

Many thanks

John Goodenough

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at john.goodenough@tgh.nhs.uk
