"A bad experience of A&E"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I had a horrible experience at QE hospital A&E.

After waiting nearly 4 hours to see a doctor, I was treated with disdain by some staff. From Drs giving bad medical advice to Nurses who I felt did not have a clue. I believe I was nearly killed when a Dr advised me to take a drug that would have severely increased my already high blood pressure.

Thank you for sharing your story. It is clear that your experience is not what you should have been able to expect when you came in to our Emergency Department (ED). It is difficult for us to comment at any length as we have very few details of what happened while you were in our ED. We expect our nurses to treat everyone with compassion and care and there is no excuse for a disdainful or off-hand manner. Equally we have a number of guidelines in place to ensure that medical staff take patient histories and that other conditions are taken into account when prescribing medicine. If you would like to discuss this with someone, please contact our PALs department on Tel: 020 8836 4592 Email: pals.qeht@nhs.net This will also enable us to undertake a full investigation and establish what happened and why, and if necessary update guidelines or staff training.
