"Lack of emotional support for miscarriage"

About: Prince Charles Hospital Site / Gynaecology Royal Gwent Hospital / Gynaecology The Royal Glamorgan Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have had 3 pregnancy losses (2 miscarriages and one ectopic) and the way I have been treated by 3 different hospitals leaves a lot to be desired.

I have gone to the Royal Gwent emergency gynae unit and the Royal Glamorgan hospital and Prince Charles hospital.

I was never offered any emotional support after my losses, even after 3 years of this nightmare any support I have accessed has been through my own research as I was desperate for help.

The registrar I spoke to at the Royal Gwent when it was suspected I was losing my third pregnancy was so abrupt and rude I could not believe it. When I was admitted to the Royal Glamorgan when I had my ectopic the nurses never asked if I was ok.

I am a nurse myself and I would be mortified if a patient of mine was treated like this. I know nurses and doctors are busy people, I am one myself, but this is not how people should be treated. More support should be offered to people in my situation and doctors and nurses alike should think about how they communicate with their patients.

To them my pregnancies may not have been a baby but to me they were, and the heartbreak and grief you feel is overwhelming. More support and TLC is needed.
