"3 lonely hours in New Cross day ward"

About: New Cross Hospital / Orthodontics

(as the patient),

So today I was meant to have my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic. Simple enough you would think. Apparently not. My letter stated I couldn’t eat after 7 and couldn’t drink after 11. Fair enough.

Problem 1: They had actually put the wrong place on the letter so me and my mum then got very lost looking for the new place.

Problem 2: Got to new place. Also wrong place. Got lost again. Very rude receptionist and nurse.

Problem 3: Got to right place. Mum not allowed in. No defo time of op. Nowhere for mum to wait. Sat in chair on ward. No tv, no radio nothing! ! Usual blood pressure done and asked to pee in pot. Now I haven’t drunk in nearly 7 hours by this point. There was no mention of a mandatory pregnancy test. I couldn’t go. Felt like I got disgusted looks by nurses.

Anaesthetist comes round, surgeon comes round. Signed consent form. Sister of ward pays me a visit. I tell her I had a pregnancy test the previous week in pre op and that I’ve not had a sexual partner in over 6 months. I am in no way pregnant. She goes back to desk. Old lady sat across informs me she’s been sat in the same chair since 7am with no food or water. (It’s now 2pm) and is still waiting for op.

Surgeon goes to see patient next to me. Nurse come is and goes "Its positive" Girl goes into total shock. "We need to do it again. Or did you know and not tell us?“ Girl just shakes head.

Have been pestered for last 2. 5 hours on peeing. Have tried several times and have had several snide comments and looks. Surgeon comes back. Tells me to try running the tap and no op without test done.

3 hours later I have tried and tried. Nothing and have had more snide comments so I get dressed and go to rearrange appointment. Got more comments about it being my fault and an inconvenience. Said again I had had one done and got accused of being a liar as it wasn’t on my notes. Arranged for appointment to be rescheduled and left to the question. Do you want a drink? By this point I’m in tears, I am extremely dehydrated, have a headache and feel sick.
