"Information about services for dementia care"

About: Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust Royal Preston Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a carer),

I care for my husband who was diagnosed with dementia back in 2007. I have had a lot of experiences since then and now have great support from Alzhiemers Disease Society and other carer support groups.

What I have found quite a lot is that the services when I have accessed them, have been great and so important for me not to feel isolated.

But at times it's been difficult to locate the right information to access the right services. My husband was in Royal Preston Hospital with an infection and although my whole experience was not good it was good and useful to see a poster on the ward with lots of information about dementia.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience and observations about the availability of information on dementia . We rely on feedback from individuals to continuously improve the services we offer.

Having looked at the information leaflets on our Trust website, I think we can improve further the information available on dementia and I will be working with our communication team to identify some appropriate information leaflets and ensure these are made available on our website.

Thank you once again for your feedback

Thanks again for sharing your experiences about caring for your husband. I wanted to just also let you know that we're holding some events that you might like to attend. The ‘Insight Network for Mental Health’ (a registered charity) will be holding a number of events across Lancashire to meet with unpaid carers, who provide care and support for someone with a mental health illness or dementia.

The meetings will be very informal, to talk about the proposed changes for mental health/dementia hospital and community services. Refreshments and a light sandwich lunch will be available at each meeting.“Details of all 12 meetings, including dates, times and venues can be found the Lancashire Care website or alternatively copy this link into your browser: http://www.lancashirecare.nhs.uk/communications/Latest-News/News-Articles.php?id=141

There are still places available for every meeting, and carers will be given priority over bookings to attend.

If you, or someone who you know is a carer, would be interested in attending one of the meetings in your local area, please contact Pat or Andrew on 01254 282128, or email patricia.rolph@bwd.nhs.uk to book a place.

Best wishes
