"Horrible experience with NHS mental health consultation"

About: Claybrook Centre

(as the patient),

I felt incredibly invalidated in the consultation and that I wasn't being taken seriously. After an hour of explaining my story (with lots of unhelpful feedback in between) the consultation ended in 30 minutes of the person basically telling me how I'm wasting my life with my depression and anxiety and I shouldn't keep wasting it otherwise I'll have a lot of regret. This person didn't seem to understand I am suffering from something that isn't so easy to snap out of, they kept insisting how I should just be more positive or I'll waste my life even more. This person didn't even have the basic notion or understanding about depression and it was so infuriating.

I already knew I was wasting my life! I can't control it that easily!

I am very sorry to hear of your negative experiences during your recent visit to the Claybrook Centre. In addition it is disappointing that the outcome of the consultation was not helpful. It is however not possible to respond in any detail as your posting is anonymous and therefore we are not able to look into matters further.

We do value all feedback and would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your experiences in addition to have a further opportunity to explore if there might be other options available. If you are willing to do so could you please contact our PALs department on PALS@westlondon.nhs.uk. The PALs team will ensure that your details are passed on to the relevant senior member of staff.
