"Dreadful practice"

About: Loughton Health Centre

This practice has deteriorated so much over the recent 5 or so years since the loss of two excellent, respected primary GPs.

Getting urgent appointments on the day are very difficult as there is only a small window of opportunity to phone at 08.00 to get a five minute emergency slot for that day, otherwise you are routinely told to go to A&E who are probably sick to death of these nuisance referrals by this practice.

Not only is going to hospital for antibiotics etc a real inconvenience for residents, it is also a waste of the hospital's valuable time and resources that could be spent so much better.

Some people can't get to the hospital easily anyway due to age or childcare considerations.

The practice can't cope and it's no wonder it was in special measures recently. It also has the audacity to say it's taking on new patients under these circumstances

Not enough GPs throughout the day is the bottom line coupled with many weeks wait to see your own GP.

I must add that the physicians and nurses are normally good if you're lucky enough to be able to see one.

Thank you for your feedback. The practice offers shorter on the day appointments for urgent conditions and longer appointments for routine and follow ups. Our appointment line opens at 8am and these appointments are available to book online from 8am. We have increased the number of staff who answer the calls in the mornings to assist our patients also. This alleviates the pressure on our telephone lines. Patients can be advised to go to Accident and Emergency if they feel that their condition cannot safely wait until they are able to secure an appointment with a GP. This advice would be offered by one of our team who are trained Care Navigators. The practice list remains open to new patients as our list size is monitored regularly to ensure the number of registered patients is stable, thus allowing us to be able to offer essential services to all of our patients. Please contact the Practice Manager at the surgery if you would like further clarification.
