"Constantly late and poor communication"

About: De Parys Medical Centre

From day one of registering at this surgery I have been constantly disappointed with the service. Every single time I've been in contact with the surgery I have left extremely frustrated. When I first registered with the surgery I was told if I didn't know my nhs number I may not be accepted into the surgery so I would have to call up and find out what it is so I would be able to be registered with a go, so obviously concerned about this I called around 3 different surgeries and finally the nhs helpline to find out this information only to be told by the nhs that this is not true and I wouldn't be given my nhs number over the phone anyway as it would breach my data protection. I called the surgery back up to tell them what I had been told only to get a very rude receptionist bluntly tell me that the nhs was wrong and I may not be accepted into the surgery because I failed to provide a nhs number which I have never even seen in my life. I did get accepted into the surgery and I went to my first appointment optimistic. My appointment was at 4.45 and I booked time off of work to attend the appointment and I signed into the surgery at 3.30. At 5.30 after still not being seen I had no choice but to leave as I had somewhere to be at 6. I received a message from the surgery the next day saying as I had failed to attend my appointment that was a strike on my record and if I failed to attend more appointments i would be a removed from the practice. I was at the surgery and they saw I was there I had to leave as I hadn't been seen for over an hour because they were late yet I got punished. My next appointment was no better. I went for a medication review, I was seen nearly 40 minutes late and the nurse barely listened to anything I had to say just nodded her head muttered a few okays and printed me a new prescription which I didn't ask for or need as I had got my last one a week ago, she didn't take her eyes of her computer screen the entire appointment and send me out of the room. I was very frustrated. I was rushed out because they needed to make up time even though I had been left waiting again. I received a message from my midwife last week asking to visit me at my home today at 9.30 I obviously agreed to this and booked time off of work. Its 2 hours and 15 minutes later and no one has turned up, no contact made with me regarding being late or wanting to rearrange dispite me trying to make contact. I am very unhappy and its extremely unprofessional.

We apologise if you have received conflicting information regarding the registration process. We are advised to ascertain the NHS number wherever possible from patients wishing to register with the practice in order to ensure that the correct NHS GP records are matched up.

We are sorry that you appear to have experienced a delay in being seen at the practice on the first occasion. We would always suggest that patients report back to reception desk if they are concerned that they have been overlooked. It would useful to understand if you checked in at the patient information screen or with a member of staff at the reception desk. If you would like to provide me with this information I would be happy to take a look at this issue? Please email thedeparysgroup@nhs.net and mark it for my attention.

Please accept our apology on behalf of the nurse in question. It would not have been her intention to make you feel that your concerns were not being attended to.

We understand that it must have been very frustrating for you to be left waiting for the midwife to visit you as arranged. However the appointments booked by the midwife are not the responsibility of the practice. Please contact Bedford Hospital Cygnet Wing and ask to speak to the Manager who will be able to assist you.

Regards

Janet Griffin
