"Mental Health not on a par with physical health"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was dismayed when I hit rock bottom with my anxiety and depression and was brought to A&E feeling suicidal by ambulance for a place of safety. Ambulance service very good.

Arrived at Musgrove Park Hospital

A&E in Taunton to be met with uncompassionate, unsafe, uncaring nurses/staff with a attitude and was told they don't deal with with mental health. I waited over 5 hrs to be seen by their mental health staff/team who after 5 mins of speaking to be said I was okay to go.

I stated I felt suicidal and I was not in a good place, but the A&E staff shoved me out of the cubicle and said I had taken up enough time. Mostly in the cubicle I was left completely alone distressed and upset. Other patients were concerned. I went into the A&E toilets and collapsed after taking quite a number of pills and ended up in intensive care. I think if I could of been helped in the A&E in the first instance, my life would bnb not have been put at risk. I obviously was not in control of my thinking at the time, and do not choose to be suicidal when on a good day and when u am thinking clear.

In my view, the whole A&E in Musgrove park hospital needs to change their attitudes towards people with mental health problems. We are human. I hope this will be taken up so others will not have to experience what I had to. I was offered a meeting to discuss my concerns about the care 4 weeks ago but have heard nothing back about it so far. It would be good to talk.
