"A visit to A&E"

About: East Of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Unexpectedly having to go to hospital via ambulance is always an unnerving situation. Paramedics are often the start of an experience with the NHS. They are amazing, compassionate people who do a brilliant job in difficult circumstances, I have nothing but praise for this fantastic FREE service. I was taken to A&E, I was able to walk and I didn’t deem myself an emergency and I knew there would be a wait. It was busy for a Wednesday evening and I did have a long wait...... this is not a complaint this is in praise of ALL the staff, they work under extreme pressure. I sat and watched, the triage nurses never stop, the paperwork is mountainous! There is a constant busyness. You have to be patient being a patient, you get there in the end and I have nothing but praise and thanks to all of the staff who treated me and the lovely A&E buddies (what a good idea!). We are so lucky to have the NHS. My one negative observation? The toilets, they are pretty disgusting, perhaps Sodexo could revisit their cleaning regime to include regular bathroom inspections..... surely toilets are the first place where infections can spread?

I have nothing but praise for all the staff who have to work under extreme circumstances to the best of their abilities and I, for one, am exceptionally grateful.

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience at Stoke Mandeville A&E Department. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with the care you received from our dedicated A&E staff at what would have been an extremely difficult and sensitive time for you.

Please be assured your lovely words of praise will be passed on the urgent care team for their attention.

I was sorry to read of your experience in our toilet facilities. We have engaged with Sodexo closely to try to ensure the rest rooms are of the highest standard at all times. I am sorry that on this occasion you found our facilities to be below the expected standard.

Notwithstanding this, thank you for your kind feedback, comments such as yours are always gratefully received.
