"suspected grumbling appendix"

(as the patient),

I drove myself in agony to the Walk in centre in Sheffield, while walking into the reception area with tears rolling down my face, I was greeted by a welcoming face who took my name and the sent me around to a nurse who asked if I could tell them why I was there. The nurse was very sympathetic and could clearly see I was in pain. Although I had to wait for an 1 to be seen by a nurse, she was very thorough and rang through to the Northern General surgical admission unit to ask if they would like to see me. I got a letter and off I went to find this department. My husband came to meet me and we parked up and a very kind porter walked us over to the correct building and found us the quickest route as again he could tell I was in pain.

The wait to see a consultant was 4 and half hours, I had had nothing to eat all day and was informed I couldnt eat anything as they might have to operate that day if it was appendicitis. Eventually a surgeon cam to examine me and confirmed he didnt think it was this but he wanted the registrar to see me before discharging me. He had to do some intrusive examinations but explained everything and asked if I had had anything like this done previously he also brought in a female nurse as a chaperone which was gratefully received. She was lovely and held my hand through the process.

I then had to wait for another procedure and got taken through to a ward with 1 empty bed and it was visiting time so there was lots of people on the ward. This felt very intrusive, I felt like everyone could hear what procedure I was having done. It would have been better if I could have been in a side room with a toilet.

I also had to ask 3 times to have the canula removed from my arm, if I hadnt asked would it have been removed?
