I was referred to the Liver nurse at Rotherham District General Hospital following a diagnosis of fatty liver. During the consultation I found the Nurse extremely rude and unwilling to listen to anything I had to say. I know full well I have contributed to my problem but all she wanted to do was sit on her pedestal and lecture me, when not arguing with my wife, who had come along to support me.
It is not her role to sit in judgement on her patients but to offer practical help and support and health advice, something that she seemed unable to do.
I would suggest that her supercilious attitude was more likely to push me into having a drink than prevent me from doing so. Just a tiny bit of understanding goes a long way. It took me a great deal of courage to attend the clinic and I'm not sure I'm able to attend the follow-up if this is the sort of of treatment I'm going to receive.
"Total lack of understanding of how real people..."
