"Named nurse sessions are good but would like more"

About: Rampton Hospital / Mental Health Service

(as the patient),

I am a Patient on Alford Ward. The Layout could be improved for visibility which would aid safety. I would like to go outside more. The Staff are effective as they chat with us like adults and not children. I would like to see more off ward activities like ward walks, Gym, swimming and more sport. I think the ward rounds are good as I can talk about medication and look at alternatives. My named nurse sessions are good but would like more of them. Being locked up in my room sometimes can help me feel safe rather than being in the community on the ward. We have a good Dr and community reputation. We get 3 community meetings a week which is good. I would like to see themed nights and Pool table for Patients

Thank you for this posting. It sounds like you are really engaging in the life of Alford and in activities that will help your recovery. It was great to read that you feel that staff are effective and speak to patients respectfully. I am sure that managers of the mental helath pathway will be able to comment more fully. On your ideas for themed nights and pool, perhaps thse are best put to a community meeting.

With best wishes.

Peter

HI, Thank you for your time ot be involeved in this peoice of work to enable us to capture what its like to live at Rampton in the MH care stream.

I will speak with you Ward Manager regarding the named nurse sessions and see if there is a probelm as you are not the only perosn who has raised this. We will do our best to improve on this for you.

We have some ideas of how we support a more meaningful day for patients on the wards and once we have these transferred in to a plan we will be sharing with staff and patients and we hope you will be pleased with the outcome. We totally appreciate that it’s a long day on the ward and we hope these plans will support you on a daily basis to be more active and relieve the boredom and hopefully create a better sense of community between staff and patients. Fresh air in the MH care stream has been reviewed and we are hoping you have already seen improvement with this. We are monitoring it on a daily basis and made this a priority for the hospital managers to ensure this is facilitated. I do believe Alford have a daily session of a walk around the hospital and hope you enjoy this. Alford will be moving wards to a newly refurbished ward so I hope you enjoy this new environment and better access to fresh air with a nice garden.

Thank you

Adele Fox
