"Travel expenses to travel to receive NHS treatment"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as the patient),

My certificate says, "If you need to travel in Scotland to a hospital to receive NHS treatment you can get help with the cost of your journey".

Your Cash Office staff appear to have their own interpretation of the HC2 certificate.  Their view is that it only applies to outpatient appointments.  This is not the case.

I was sent directly to ward 4 by my GP one evening.  Since I needed a CT, which could only be done the following morning. I was given the option to go home & return 9:30 the next day and opted to go home.  I wasn't booked onto the ward till after 9 pm & I'm almost certain I had already left by then.

Having been seen by Mr Stewart after the CT scan, I was allowed home with antibiotics.  I was given a discharge document which did not reflect reality, instead it & the online system show that I was an overnight inpatient.  There does not appear to be any way to show what really happened & I was appalled at being disbelieved by the very rude cash office staff.  They kept saying I was entitled to any payment (literally pennies), and said it more than four times.  That never made it right & the form says this person was in fact very wrong. To administer a system, they should at least know the correct rules.

Dear Madge51

I am sorry to hear that you where unhappy with the level of service you received from my staff within the cash office. We have just recently re-located to this area. Unfortunately we do not have an intercom system which makes it difficult to communicate. We will be looking to improve this in the near future.

When you presented at the cash office you had a discharge letter from Ward 4 and did not have an expenses claim form. The staffs checked trakcare system the system showed that you had been admitted to Ward 4 on the 24th July at 21:20 and discharged on the 25th at 18:10, this is the reason why it wasn’t paid. If this was incorrect I apologies which we would be happy to correct on your next visit.

Regards

William

Update posted by Madge51 (the patient)

William, the details that I gave were factual. I asked for a travel expense claim form on the ward but they didn't have any & clearly had never been asked before. They said I'd need to ask at the cash office.

This complaint has nothing to do with the lack of an intercom. It has everything to do with the staff not understanding the conditions stated on my certificate & in my complaint. None of which have been addressed.
