"Kidney stones"

About: University Hospital Aintree / Urology

Been in recently with kidney stones and renal colic. Will have to go in again soon to have stones removed.I have a urostomy and no bladder.A and E took urine sample from urostomy bag so the assumed I had a UTI.When it was done properly on the Urology ward and I’d had CT scan they saw kidney stones up my left renal tract which will need surgery to be removed.I also have a pressure ulcer which I overheard one nurse say,’I’m not doing that’.The stoma nurse tried to fit a bag onto the end of urostomy bag and said I couldn’t use there’s because the stoma might damage my skin .I also overheard HCA at night telling a nurse she should have to empty my urostomy bag.She did empty it and took very good care of me.Student nurse on ward absolutely brilliant and worked extremely hard as did ward manager. It would be good if nurses and some of the younger HCA’s didn’t see a disabled patient as a problem. Why go to university to train to become a nurse if you can’t or won’t do basic nursing.Thank you to nurses who worked at night, the ward manager and HCA and older HCA who worked very hard.I’m not interested to hear how hard nurses work if they stand around laughing and gossiping about patients.Hope next stay there is much better!Fortunately the Urologist who I usually see is based there but can’t do this type of keyhole surgery and he knows what’s going on.So from that perspective I will be safe.I was given no diet sheet so even gp didn’t know what to do.But in fairness they have prescribed protein drinks as add on with food. There so short of beds thatbpatients are not receiving the best care.
