I had occasion to call out NHS24 on Sunday with an extremely painful foot on which I was unable to put any weight. They took me in an ambulance to A and E at Perth royal infirmary where I was seen very quickly by the on call orthopaedic doctor. Eventually I was taken to Ward 1, where I was eventually diagnosed with with acute gout. What I really want to say here is that I can't praise highly enough the staff on Ward 1! I was stuck in a bed for four days, even needing to be wheeled to and from the toilet, and had to be waited on for everything. The nurses in the ward, extremely busy and probably understaffed as usual, nevertheless always had a cheery smile and and some cheery words for you, often going the extra mile to help. I can't over emphasise the difference this makes when you are in pain and feeling poorly. There is a lot of negative press about the NHS these days, and I have no doubt that it needs more money and better management, but the staff at the coal face,so to speak, in my recent experience made the experience for me so much more pleasant than it might have been. Girls, you are stars, every one of you, and a credit to your profession!
