"Kind staff and peaceful birthing unit"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Maternity care

I gave birth here in November 2017 and have been meaning to write a review ever since. My birth story didn't quite go to plan, and instead of the water birth I'd expected, I ended up failing to progress, and with an emergency C-section. At all times, I was treated with kindness and dignity. My wishes to delay induction were respected twice - for the pessary and IV induction. The nursing and medical staff were so positive and gentle with me, and fully gained my trust over the three days I was there. At the point that further delay would have risked the health of my baby, they communicated this compassionately, clearly and with authority. The surgeon was like a gentle giant. I came away with a scar that took barely a few weeks to heal, and a calm healthy daughter. I look back on my 'birth story' as one of beauty and peace, and I am so grateful to all the staff involved for making it that way.
