"Lack of communication"

About: East Ayrshire Community Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I attended my outpatient appointment to be told that my doctor was off work and that there was no one available to see me.

The receptionist looked into this further and informed me that I would have to come back later this month - my appointment had been changed but why had no one let me know?

I feel that they could have rung, texted or emailed but I didn't receive anything.  I am currently off work and on universal credit due to a shoulder injury which may require surgery and the cost of the transport to and from the hospital has to come from this benefit which I have to repeat again now.   I find this unacceptable.

I am not one to complain usually but the lack of communication is clear here and has caused unnecessary stress and monetary costs.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear crocodilerm83,

I have been asked to post this on behalf of Mary, the Deputy Charge Nurse,

"I am sorry to hear that this has caused you stress and monetary costs. If you are able to give me a call on 01290 427209 I am happy to discuss further to try to avoid this happening again.

DCN Mary"
