"The little things make a massive difference."

About: St John's Hospital / Accident & Emergency St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as a parent/guardian),

My teenage son was in severe pain, I drove him to St. Johns A and E. They got him straight to a bed, seen by a doctor, bloods taken and results back within an hour. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis and sent to the obs ward. I cannot express how amazing the obs ward staff were. He had to take morphine as the pain was so bad, and the staff explained his diagnosis and comforted him when the pain was so bad. He was told he can never drink again, which was a blow as he is 18 and about to book his first boys holiday. Again the nurses and doctor was great with explaining things. I even got a few cups of tea with staff knowing I wasn't leaving his side. Just those little things make a massive difference to a daunting experience for the whole family. The few days before being transferred to Edinburgh was the best it could be. Thank you obs ward in particular and the A and E staff. (The Edinburgh Napier nursing student in A&E was so good with my son. Thank you! ! ! Gem I believe her name was. )

Dear 'mothers love'

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this lovely feedback,

I am glad that you had a positive experience when you had to attend the Emergency Departmen and the Observation Ward t at St John's hospital with your son and I will make sure that your kind words are shared with all staff involved.

With best wishes,
